COMPOSITION :
Each 1 ml contains:
Amikacin (sulphate).......................50 mg

PROPERTIES:

Amikacin is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from kanamycin, with bactericidal action. It acts on susceptible bacteria presumably by irreversibly binding to 30S ribosomal subunit thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. It is considered a bactericidal concentration-dependent antibiotic. It's spectrum of activity includes: coverage against many aerobic gram-negative and some aerobic gram-positive bacteria , including most species of E.coli, klebsiella, Proteus, Pseudomonas, salmonella, Enterobacter, serratia, and shigella, Mycoplasma, and staphylococcus.Several strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, proteus, and serratia that are resistant to gentamicin will still be killed by amikacin.

TARGET SPECIES: Dogs.

INDICATIONS:
It is used in the treatment of:
Genitourinary tract infections (cystitis) caused by susceptible strains of Escherichia coli and
Proteus sp.
Skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible strains of Pseudomonas species and E. coli.

DOSAGE OF ADMINISTRATION:
Route of adminlstration: Subcutaneous (S/C) OR Intramuscular (I/M)
For Whole product: 0.22 ml of Evamare / kg b.wt. every 12 hrs (twice daily)
Treat dogs with skin and soft tissue infections for a minimum of 7 days and those with genitourinary infections for 7 to 21 days or until culture is negative and asymptomatic. If no response is observed after 3 days of treatment should be discontinued and the case reevaluated. Maximum duration of therapy should not exceed 30 days.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS:
- Concurrent use of other aminoglycosides should be avoided because of the potential for additive effects.

CONTRA INDICATIONS:
-Not to be used for animals who have a history of hypersensitivity to amikacin
-Not to be used in dogs with seriously impaired renal function.
-Not for use in breeding dogs as reproductive studies have not been conducted.
- Use with extreme caution in dogs in which hearing acuity is required for functioning.

SIDE EFFECTS:
-Although amikacin, like other aminoglycosides, is potentially nephrotoxic, ototoxic and neurotoxic, parenteral (intravenous) administration of amikacin sulphate twice daily at dosages of up to 22 mg/kg for 15 consecutive days in horses resulted in no clinical, laboratory or histopathologic evidence of toxicity.
